Big idea

Our big idea is an umbrella concept that sits atop narrative, content and all other interactions, encapsulating the experience in a neat, exciting descriptor that may quite literally go above the experience door. It clearly demonstrates how the experience connects to audience, story and client objectives. The “big idea” leads the design going forward.

Engagement Strategy

Our design process is all-encompassing, multidisciplinary and lays a foundation for project success. Our team of experts will take you from initial concept to budget and product specs, then plan for seamless interactions and key messaging.

Visitor Experience Design

Made up of two stages—concept design and design development—our visitor experience design process spans from initial concept and planned exhibits to exact project specs. Writers, architects and interaction designers combine their expertise to deliver impactful digital experiences in a spacial environment.

We deliver content, measurements, technology and the cost of materials required, as well as sample designs, storyboards and all briefs. We also conduct value engineering to improve the impact, functionality and project spending.

Interactive Product Design

Using leading-edge technologies, behavioural insights and the expertise of a multidisciplinary team, we produce award-winning interactive exhibits and products. These can be as small as a tablet game or as large as an augmented projection that fills an entire gallery.

Communication Design

Rooted in your engagement strategy and an understanding of how audiences interact with text and multimedia in an exhibition environment, we design messaging and a visual language. We tap into cultural currents and the communication patterns of your audience.

User Experience Design (UX)

We’re experts in user experience (UX) design and UX interactions—which are cornerstones of the modern visitor experience. From touchscreen interactions to virtual reality: we deliver the full package while ensuring a seamless user experience.

Content Development

We develop content that caters to a range of audience members, who absorb content at varying levels of depth and in diverse formats. We have all the technical and fabrication expertise needed to create your visitor experiences and interactive exhibits. We’ll handle it all: from pre-production through to manufacturing, assembly and testing, crafting, shipping, installation, and post-production.

Fabrication

Before production, we will contract and set up consultations with manufacturing specialists, who our in-house technical production team will then be tasked with orchestrating regular workshop inspections and reporting. The final product will be assembled and tested at the formula D_ workshop, where it will be created and packaged to ship. Our team will also be available onsite to manage the installation process and train your staff. Post-installation, we will remotely monitor the experience to ensure everything is going to plan.

Media Production

Using leading-edge technologies, behavioural insights and the expertise of a multidisciplinary team, we produce award-winning interactive exhibits and products. These can be as small as a tablet game or as large as an augmented projection that fills an entire gallery.

Software Development

Working closely with our user experience design team, our developers build software that works using quick iterations and releases tested throughout the development process. With modern-day visitor attractions, the software is often the backbone of the experience – we use apps, interfaces and coding frameworks to maximise our ability to create unforgettable exhibitions.

Print Production

Regardless of how technologically advanced a visitor attraction is, print design and production still account for a vital portion of the visual communication elements.

Installation

We know that the last leg of this process can be overly stressful and, if not appropriately coordinated, can exceed budget and timelines. So, formula D_’s team is deployed onsite to supervise and quality check the work of different trades. Our project managers ensure coordination activities run smoothly, and we significantly reduce the risk of onsite integration issues by fully assembling critical systems before installation as part of our Fabrication process.
